June 9, 2013Brother Peterson went through 4 ways we need to keep in mind so that we resist the spirit of the world.
1. Self Importance. Drawing undue attention to themselves. Matt 4:8-10 ...Jesus didn't look for glory for himself. He wasn't even tempted despite Satan's efforts.
2. Neutrality. Remaining neutral in this world's affairs. Early Christians followed Jesus' example and so do we. Even when topics effect us personally, we must not even form an opinion.
3. Keep Christ's priorities first. Improper use of sex. The angles who left Jehovah were enticed by sex. They have feelings and desires for sex. However the only place for sex is in the marriage arrangement. So we need to respect that arrangement.
4. Material things. Jesus enjoyed things, he went to weddings, he enjoyed the hospitality of others, but he never preoccupied himself with material things. He appreciated things but never let it be a distraction.
WT lesson. First study lesson in the April 15th WT, Receive Full Benefit From Reading the Bible.
The importance of reading the Bible every day. For me, listening to the Bible reading on line this year, has had a huge effect on my Bible reading. I have often failed to really grasp the emotional depth, the deep distress, the abundant joy of the experiences written. I often pause the reading so i can digest a new or personal touching point. As well as saying the point out loud. For me, listening to the Bible reading helps me to not just read without emotion. Or the correct emotion. Perhaps my reading 1 or 2 out of 10 verses I had the correct emotion, but hearing the correct emotion is like seeing a black and white picture of flowers in a field to a full color picture of flowers in a field. HUGE difference for me.
The other point in the lesson that caught my attention is, in paragraph 5... to resist immoral pressures, reflect on "Jehovah sees the bad things people do even in private. I do not want to offend him". Perhaps if I remember, not just that he sees, but as though he is standing in the room with me/us/them.
Also, sarcasm hurts!
