Colton had his surgery, but it didn't go like expected.  First, the doctor found that he couldn't pin the bone back in place because there was just too much damage.  So he just removed the 3 broken pieces.  But, that wasn't all.  It turns out the position of the hole in the bone must be refilled, the problem is, what it would be filled with.

He has 2 options, first... if they could get the filler from a cadaver, then in one more operation he could have it repaired.  The problem is, it isn't easy to get what they would need, it could take up to 6 months to get a piece.  Since he only had insurance for 6 more months that would be a problem.

His other option would require 2 operations, first to extract cells from him, then they would grow what was needed in a lab and the next operation would be to fill the hole.  This might be able to be done over the next couple of months.  So when Colton goes in for his checkup in 2 weeks, they will come up with the plan that will work best.

the other event that happened was this...
we were all standing around Colton's bed while the anesthesiologist was talking and Steph fainted. She was next to Lauren and Lauren tried to catch her, Leon tried to grab he...r head but she still bumped the bed a bit, the anest dr was next to her and he jumped and grabbed her legs and asked for a pillow, Colton whipped it out from under his head and handed it to them, he had the rails up on his bed so he couldn't reach her.

She was out for about 1-2 minutes before she started coming too. Her face was just white as a sheet. The dr. & nurses helped her onto a stretcher and Carol & I went with her down to the ER as they ran a bunch of tests on her. They didn't figure out why it happened. She has never fainted before.

Steph said, for about a minute or so before she fainted she started sweating and just felt like she needed to get out of there (she wasn't overly hot or anything just sweating)

Later in the er she was standing and we thought she was ok, the dr was right there and we saw her face go white again and she nearly fainted again, we got her back in bed and she just started shaking. At the same moment, Lauren got super flushed and she thought she was either going to throw up or pass out so she sat down. At least the dr. was in the room at the time to see this.

one other symptom Steph had was about ever 10 minutes her face would get super flushed at that time she was then very cold (hands like ice) and after a few minutes it would settle down.

For Lauren that was the 2nd time it had happened since she got to the hospital. (it happened one more time a bit later.) lauren also said, each time it happened she smelled something really bad. Steph didn't say she noticed a smell at all. when Steph had fainted, Lauren said, "what is that smell"? and she moved to get away from it.

Since it happened to both of them, they checked Steph's CO level and found it was a bit elevated. So as soon as we got home we had the house checked for Carbon Monoxide. The guy checked ever inch of the house 3 times including outside, he even turned on the gas stove to get a elevated reading, but the house is good, and our CO detector is in perfect working order.

I'm guessing the CO elevation was from before, when Steph & I were trying to put the seat up on the van, we were next to the exhaust. We both started coughing and hacking. Then, when we got to the hospital, there was a bus by us, and again, we started to cough at the exhaust.

In the end, the dr. said, perhaps it was a number of things combine as to why she fainted, like not eating well the last couple weeks because of all the pain she has had with her tooth... (she had dental work done and still needs a root canal). Along with the pain meds she is on, and perhaps the elevated CO level. But nothing solid to say for sure why it happened.

Since we don't know for sure why she fainted, we are keeping a close eye on her, so that if she continues with symptoms or faints again we will take her back into the ER.
